Lokal Byahero: Paul Jonh Acuna

Paul Jonh Acuna known to peers as Jaypee or JP is the writer in JP's Travelogue a personal account of his travel and adventures. I met Sir JP in one of our climbs in Batangas, and right after I saw his blog, I was astonished with his stories. I was lured into his chasing waterfall series, and travels in the remote provinces of the Philippines. He started his blog as a personal journal, but after a few years, the personal thing turns into a passion that he was hooked and need to pursue. He's now on a lifelong journey to share and inspire others to travel.

1. How would you describe yourself in three words?
Adventurous. Compassionate. Dedicated.

2. Tell me something about your day job, if any?
I worked for a Parochial School as a bookkeeper. I'm in charge with creating financial reports from financial transactions.

3. What inspired you to start visiting the different destinations in the Philippines?
I was initially inspired to travel when I was in Elementary. I was dying to visit Banaue Rice Terraces, Pagsanjan Falls and Mayon Volcano being the most popular destination in our textbooks. But over the years my interest in travel has increased and my inspiration has taken a whole new direction where I'm no more inspired by the history as much as I am intrigued by the cultures of the cities/provinces that I visit

4. With the places you’ve been, which is your favorite so far, why?
Mt. Apo.. The list of places and mountains I want to visit/climb and experience can truly go on endlessly, but Mt. Apo have really caught my interest.

5. When a friend asks you: "Take me to the most beautiful place in the Philippines." Where will you take him/her?
The Enchanted River - a lagoon-river on the island of Mindanao. It is located in Barangay Talisay, Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur. The setting is magnificent. Breathtaking. Enchanting. It’s blue water and otherworldly appearance is like something out of a dream. The water is really blue and clear :)

6. Travel solo or travel in group?
On most of my travels I have been on my own. But I have also had many great experiences when travelling with a friend. So, It’s a big dilemma, trying to decide whether to commit to an adventure by myself or with a group.

7. What would you consider as your dream destination?
Tawi-Tawi. The more I read about its beaches, people and culture, the more convinced I am that I HAVE to visit Tawi-Tawi soon.

8. What is your message to those who want to start traveling?
When you get old, life seems to just sort of happen to you. Your youth is your time. So,better get to do what you want before it expires. Our country is a stunning place, full of outstanding works of art by nature and by people. Go, see it.
